Touche!

But what mindless product it is... When I have nothing better to think about, I wonder how Paul managed to ever write some of those songs - they're so intuitive and he obviously didn't spend too much time editing his lyrics, it's like Andre Breton taught the Sugar Plum Fairy how to write songs. A substantial portion of Paul's solo lyrics are sublimely ridiculous, and that's what makes them so charming. Sometimes I listen to Wings and I laugh, not derisively, but because of the sheer cheek it takes to put such peculiar words with such good music.

There's a lot of 'pop product' out there that's not nearly as funny, fun, or good natured as Paul's, and I think that elevates Paul above, say, Christina Aguilera or N*Sync or whoever.

Well, that and personal preference... Image

Well said. I think your perspective is a healthy one and will try to remember it everytime I find myself getting irritated at one of Paul's lyrical shortcomings.

The associations we form with others sometimes save us from ourselves...I've always believed in the following equation:

Paul McCartney minus John Lennon equals Leo Sayer...

The lyrics are deplorable. The tune would have made:

a) a great dog food commercial
b) BMI change what its acronym stood for
c) Odysseus run screaming with his hands covering his ears
d) Khatchaturian krumble

Answers on a postcard, please...

But those who think the lyrics are "deplorable" dont see that the lyrics are a joke in itself

"silly love songs"
....Its supposed to be silly

Oh, it's that, alright...

...but do you really think all 1,000,000 copies of it were sold to people who appreciated it for it's jokiness? Would that it were such a world...

I believe it was H. L. Mencken who said, "Nobody ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public"...or was it Simon on American Idol?

Thanks, Dane.

I get it now.

It was substantially more than a mere million, regretably.

And Mencken was far, far ahead of his time.

Yeah, I would love to see him as an 'Idol' judge.

Or you, for that matter, Paul...

Dane, to have you sitting Maharshi-style on the judge's table, surrounded by lilies, with Paula Abdul at your feet...

That would be worth millions...

Then we're agreed...it's you, me and Paula next season.

I may never have played bass for Journey, but I feel as though I have...
