I thought that it might sound really good with maple. I assumed it was for strength purposes being a 12-string.

Your right about the 330, but I just don't like the looks of those tuners. I prefer the vintage look.

Well, there's a question answered I never got around to asking here; Did Rick ever put Sta-Tite tuners on a Rick 12....But while I'm here, did they Ever do it on any Rick 12s from the past??

Bill, I know people have changed the modern tuners to the RIC Vintage type on a 330/12 with no problem.

BTW, I still have the Montezuma Brown 330/12 with Vintage pickups, gold pickguards, and TRC available.

Don, Rickenbacker installed open-back tuners on some of the very first 450/12s made in 1964, but I don't know if they were Sta-Tites; they may not have even been Grover, but they had a different shaped button head on them than the 325 Sta-Tites. I've seen two 1964 450/12s with them, only like 4 or 5 serial numbers apart.

I'm not sure how a sta-tite will go on a regular 330, my guess is that even if you were able to put them on, you're going to have some visable holes in the back.

The maple neck on the 310/12C58 isn't going anywhere, strong is putting it mildly. I don't know how Luis came up with the neck itself because it seems to be exactly like a regular C58 neck, only with a 12 string headstock. Some of it must have been done by hand because I doubt they have a 12 string C58 neck pattern in their CNC machines.

Interesting that some of the early 60s 12-string models had open backs, they are beautiful and an extremely cool appointment on Nick's guitar.

If holes would be visable I would not even consider it. Kevin sent me a picture of a new 330 headstock retrofitted with vintage tuners. That would be a nice mod to the 330, and I doubt that it would affect value what-so-ever. In fact it might increase interest if one was to sell it at a later date.
