I try to avoid GC at all times. Their salespeople used to work for Dunkin' Donuts.

the guitar center in Canton Mi had a bunch of Rics when they opened but these days they have 1 to 3 token ric guitars ... the only ric basses they get these days are used ... they sell immediately ... a few years ago one of their managers was trying to convince me that ric was going out of business, and I should buy something in stock ... so I told him that ric sold stuff faster than they could make them ... they have a current manager who really wants to get some ric basses but that store is expected to sell what corporate sends them ...

I think that GC doesn't like that RIC hasn't whored out their line to overseas makers so they can sell them cheap like all the other guitar makers did. I see now even Sadowsky has a Korean import...geez.
I'm glad RIC hasn't done that. I don't want to see cheap RIC imports.

I went into my local Guitar Center yesterday to check out their assortment of Ricks and found that the only one they had in stock was a 325. The salespeople referred to it as the P.O.S. Rick! However, I did get a bargain from them yesterday -- I bought a brand new Gibson Dove Elvis guitar for $935! Apparently it was a special order and the person never picked it up so they marked it down. I wasn't looking for an acoustic, but who can resist a deal?

Those Sadowskys are made in Tokyo, not Korea.

There's nothing cheap about them, they're just made in Sadowsky's Japan shop and not the USA shop. And from what I've heard from various Sadowsky owners who play and own both the NYC and Tokyo models, they're up to par with each other, quality and soundwise. The difference is really that if you want something custom, you have to get it through the NYC shop. The Metro basses are kind of like Sadowsky's new baseline instruments. In other words, if you want a Sadowsky and don't need anything custom, you can't go wrong with a Metro.

I called GC last week to ask whether the had a 4003 bass in stock and they said they didn't and proceeded to tell me their lack of Ric stock had to do with a conflict with the stores 30 return policy. Apparently GC was having problems returning guitars if the store gets one back. They were willing to order one however.

I would steer clear from GC! I always go to www.wildwoodguitars.com or www.pickofthericks.com for my guitars.
