I think it should remain Natural and then you could call it Roy .....seriously, I love the colour as it is.

I agree with Shaun, as much as I love Fireglo, the Maple on this 4003 is outstanding, and once restored will positivley "Glo" by itself.
My vote is leave it natural.

Bah, forget Fireglo. When you have a maple shine like that... gotta be for keeps.
I vote MG all the way. That's potentially an absoloute stunner of a bass.

How's about this for an idea. Not clear or Fireglo but a Fireglo spray pattern done like the 4004 basses with a lot the figuring showing through. I think this is done by staining the wood and then shooting clear over it. I can make a gold acrylic pickguard for this and I also have a new toaster for the neck and some black vintage style knobs. $150.00 for everything shipped.

Oh boy... looks like I've got a color contest on my hands now! XD
Let's see, that's 5 Mapleglo and 3 Fireglo and 3 other.
OK, guys, I'm going to beg, no, plead, for another chance at Fireglo...Please, oh please... Here goes;
Here's some pics of my 660/12 that I'm absolutely in love with, and want to match the 4003 to.
As you can see the red on my 660 doesn't really hide the figuring anywhere as on some of the darker FGs I have seen. So...
If I could get Dolan (and I haven't checked yet) to duplicate the style of my 660/12's Fireglo would that keep me in good graces?? Or will this pleading newbie be a marked man from here on out?
Hey Dane, why don't you drop me an "e" at;
mtryon at comcast dot net? And we can kick around what you have available? 'Cuz basically I need everything but a jack plate -- Thanks!

Oops, I couldn't get the picture of my 660 neck in my previous post. I kept getting a file size error. If anyone knows how you do mulitple pics in a post please let me know. (I guess it's a total of 36K limit, not each pic 36K, as I was trying).
Anyway, the neck on my 660/12 is figured VERY similar to the 4003 project bass... sorry for the crummy photo.
Do I have any MG to FG converts? ...hopefully?

FireGlo is such a classic Ricky color. I've seen a few of the 660 TomPetty models with really nice figured maple like yours and have always liked that look. I think the "ooh and ahh' factor would be higher with FG on this bass. JUST DO IT DUDE!

Ok Martin, I'll defect, I'm a dye hard Fireglo fan.
Long as it's done tastefully. Nice maple on your 660, and a delicious Fireglo as well, how about chequered binding at the same time !!!

Fireglo it is.
As regards pickups, I'll be happy to let you have for free the neck high-gain p.u. from my recently-acquired March 1986 Mapleglo black trim 4003 (the bridge one is toast).

Decisions, decisions...This wood looks like it was left over from the 4002 pile.
I know where you,re coming from Martin, as the neck on my bass has a green finish over some lovely birds eye...Here,s a pic
Regardless if it,s M/G or F/G it will be a great looking bass...and kudos to Ted for being able to give it up!!
