I don't think I've ever had a good experience in a GC. It's like going into a used car dealership, always a salesman trying to get you to make a purchase. It's hard enough for me to tune by naked ear, it's even harder when they have Rolling Stones blasting throughout the sales floor.

A local place in South Bend,IN called Woodwind and Brasswind is by far the best store I have been into. Seperate cut off rooms for each instrument, you can walk in without any hassle and just start jamming out. No salesmen walking around to bug you. The only instruments they really keep an eye on are the Gibson's hanging up in plain site of the registers. I even managed to spot a 4003 mapleglo just waiting to be played in the bass room. =)

I've been treated all right there. I bought an Ampeg head that blew up on me on the first gig, they took it back without question and I went GK after that. I've been able to haggle a little bit on some cabs from them. It helps to know what you want as opposed to the novices wandering around in there. I usually end up educating the salesmen, though.

the GC in Canton MI has a 2002 fireglo 4003 in mint condition asking $1000 ... the manager won't put it on the sales floor for all the gorillas to bash on ...

You can buy a brand new 4003 at Chuck Levin's Washington Music in Wheaton, MD. No need to deal with GC.

Motor City guitar has 3 new 4003's on the floor as of last Saturday. A jetglo, fireglo, and a midnight blue all are around $1050. For $50 more I would drive the 30 minutes (from Canton) and get a new one from a great store to deal with.
