Well, the plot thickens. I found out today that the guy also has a 1968 Transonic amp for sale. Anybody know anything about those? I couldn't find a whole lot via Google. In the pictures they look very cool. Should I ask in the amp forum?

The guy selling them has had a health setback so I can't see them until Friday. The waiting is the hardest part.

I saw the 1968 Ric bass today, only it wasn't a 4001 as I had assumed, it was a 4000. Oops. It is all original and in VG shape. (maybe 8.5/10) A few dings in the body but the frets are great, the finish looks good, no buckle rash, the neck is straight, the mute is even intact and slides up and down easily. No case. Anyone want to venture a guess what a '68 4000 might be worth?

Mark, that,s makes it a rare bass. Smith,s book says 11 were made that year. They are not as coveted as the 4001, but there are a lot of guys who like them here.
Difficult to price as I haven,t seen one sold since there was an early 60,s one on E Bay about 18 months ago that went for around $1600.
People seem to be paying big $$$ for any 60,s bass at present, but somewhere around $2K would be close imo...

Yes, the bass was sold. I sent it to Mississippi yesterday. I took a few pictures while I had it.

I was sleeping on this one. It's pretty much exactly what I was looking for.

You know, in hindsight, I just cant believe I didnt go for that bass, Its everything I like in a Rick.

I think alot of us were snoozing on this one.

While y'all were snoozing, I was on the phone with the buyer, he had asked my opinion on another bass. Then the talk turned to Rickenbackers and I mentioned this one and what Smith said about the production numbers. So he asked for Mark's contact info and that was that.

You can rest assured that it's going to a good home. He told me he has now registered here though he seldom has time to post. I do know he's interested in getting a 4005.

Well, I certainly wasn,t snoozing on it...I had spent nearly every day on the horn and had a cashiers check ready. Was just waiting on the pics. Had a feeling this was a good one and it certainly is, and at a very good price too.
Hey, you can,t win them all!! The new owner should be well pleased with the bass and it will be nice to have another new member here.
