I REALLY like the V63 series. And the C64, EXCEPT for the headstock.
I also like/want an early 70's flamed FG 4001 with checkered binding, split tailpiece, clear thumbrest, full width MOP inlays, no buckle rash, flat tax, 45 mpg on a Hummer, FFS healthcare, peace on earth...
You get the picture.

Buy it before someone else does

I have just picked up a 1980 4001, having played my 4003 for 5 years. Since doing so I have not used the 4003 at all.
The neck on my 4001 is slightly slimmer, the pickups have less grunt but more tone in my opinion, and once I did the 0047 cap mod the thing just growls. I personally think that the 4001 has more tonal character than the 4003.
That being said I loved my 4003 before I had the 4001 so its a case of ones great and the other one is bloody fantastic! My 4001 has an upside down headstock , but then again I play the proper way round(lefty)

Well, I'd like to get a look at the v63 since I did play the c64 the other day. The sales guy told me he has almost 50 Rics of all sorts on order from as far as a year ago. So, I think it's unlikely I'll see or play one in the near or distant future.
Hey, if I order one now, I'll have a year or more to save up for it! Now there's an idea.

The 4003s5 is too tight and the 4004CII5 is too wide ...
I modified my 4003 5 string basses from 2 1/16" at the bridge to 2 1/4" at the bridge ... that makes them more comfortable ...
For a 5 string the perfect spacing would be 2 1/2" at the bridge ... that is 1/2" per string ... the same as a 4001/4003 bass ...

The factory set string spacing of the 4004/5Cii is 2-11/16" at the bridge. That's about 1/32" less than the MM StingRay5 Bass (an industry standard 5er). The ABM bridge on the 4004/5Cii allows you to change the spacing of each string appoximately 1/16" in either direction to suit your playing style. The string spacing suits me best just as it is. Like the rest of the 4000 series basses, the 4004/5Cii neck is not very tapered, as the StingRay5 neck has a more F*nd*r like taper. It seems RIC also added to the width of the neck to have enough room between the string and the edge of the fretboard. Anyone that has ever spent enough time playing a StingRay5 bass knows that as nice of a bass guitar that it might be, if you are not careful with your B and G string fretting technique, you can easily pull / push them off the edge of the fingerboard while you are playing. That doesn't happen with the 4004/5Cii. The string spacing and neck width are not a short coming of the 4004/5Cii.
JETGLO should officially be renamed JETGLO ROCKS!
