Paul could have been a bit more vocal about it back in the day.
I had always heard that John wanted this song (Across The Universe) to be the greatest of the Beatles hits and that he had elaborate plans for it.
When they did'nt bear fruit he said that Paul deliberately flubbed it up so that it would not be a match for his own Let It Be effort.
