I use adhesive aluminum shielding on the entire back of all of my guards which are either gold or pearl white backed. It doesn't effect the paint and actually helps protect it from being scratched during installation. John Hall sent me an e-mail once regarding copper shielding that can sometimes cause a ground loop.
