I've been in touch with John Hall about this question and he was kind enough to allow me to relay the following info.
The purpleburst 4005 does exist. It was a signature colour created for Mark Hudson (with some other instruments), who is a friend of Mr. Hall's. The 4005 was a new build and not a refinished older bass. JH also noted that RIC has constructed some 4005's in what he calls the "modern era" and that some have been 8-stringers (!). I assume that these 4005's were constructed after the model was officially discontinued.

I just wonder who has the "newest" 4005 out there in forum land??
