Hey, Bob, you are right: the bass neck on my 1979 4080 is indeed both bolt on and set, unlike the 6 string one which is only bolt on and hence removable.

My daughter is out in Colorado for the holidays, and I'm pretty sure she took her camera...so I'll probably have to wait.
I was a little bummed at my gig last night-the sound guy set up his split box for micing the bass (not sure why he can't us the DI on my amp) and the Rick made a horrific buzz. It sounded fine just going through the amp, and did so at the end of the gig when I tested the bass just through the rig...
I ended up playing my fretless J for about 2/3 of the show, until I broke a D and had to deal with the Rick...but everyone said the Rick sounded far better than the J...even with what I thought was a nasty buzzing.
I have had issues with the output jack, but they've been doing a lot better. The odd thing was that I could play over the buzz, when before when my standard output was fritzing I could not create a note...another oddity was that the buzzing would get worse when I turned the volume down on the guitars (both of them)...I had to turn the main of the Amp down to hide the buzz between songs, so that tells me the issue was in the Amp and this output splitter box thing. I had used it before with no issues, however, about a month ago...so I'm stumped.
My guitarist was saying after we were done "tell anyone who tells you that Ricks can't generate a deep bottom end that they're full of ****!".

Sound guys.......GRRRRRRRRRRR....Always a good idea to give them YOUR DI. I use the DI out of my GK 400RBIII and have never had a problem, except when they "try to EQ my Rick." I had one guy say, "damn those Rics, you just can't get a good tone out of 'em". to which I said, "No, YOU can't get a good tone out of em! I CAN. Just leave it alone and stop trying to make it sound like a P-Bass, OK pal?"
