Greg, I think the Pyramids cut through better that TI's and are heavier which I like, they can have a nice jazzy sound to them, also. they are not too bright but not too thumpy either, I really like them and so do people I play for although they don't know why of course. With SVT's they really sound great and I know you're an SVT guy all the way like me. I use an SVT head with two B-15T cabs once in a while and that combo with the Pyramids really sounds nice in small rooms. You can get a modern sharp tone out of them also especially with a pick, they really cut through, they are much more muscular sounding than TI's, I think they're well worth the money. they have a very balanced tone, I heard a rumor that Jeff is going to try them out.

Wow, if Jeff tries them out, he may be hooked enough to keep them on one of his basses anyway. I may have to try them and see what they're like. I do sometimes get anooyed at the TI's and want a little more high end out of them, so maybe the Pyramids are the ticket.

That was a joke Greg. He has been rather explicit on the subject before calling them 'sound suckers' I don't think that indicates a change of heart at any time in the near future. haha!

I put a set of Pyramids (Round Wound, Light Gauge) on my 1998PT yesterday. WOW. Super bright, and, to echo comments above, incredible sustain.

The Pyramids now have one more gig on them.... yea, the sound is different. Not 1000% different, but something that is improved.

My setup is pretty simple. I'm running the Ric 360/6 through a BOSS BD-2 Blues driver and also a Holy Grail reverb box... and then into the VOX AC-15. (my VOX reverb is not working but I think the Holy Grail is the holy grail of reverb anyways)

I didn't experience the flatwound muting effect since I was coming from flatwounds anyway. I never did think that going from roundwounds to flatwounds made all that much of a muted difference anyway. Less bright, but in my mind thats not necessarily muted.... whats the word?... softer? More tonal? more pure? Less like a bowl of cold cornflakes and more like a hot bowl of grandma's old-fashioned oatmeal?

Anyways, for the extra $12-16 bucks per set, I think the Pyramids are the way to go. Pure tone and lots of sustain.

Can someone tell me what kind of strings came with my new 2005 4003 bass?( there so great)
And what size is on so I can get the same when it's time to replace them.

Have just checked out Thomann Musik as per JH's recommendation - their sets of Pyramid 12's are a very tempting £18 or so (as opposed to RicsRUs's £26). But am I reading it right that the minimum shipping cost is 15euro? Or, even worse, £15?

Has anyone in the UK, or the EU for that matter, bought stuff from Thomann? What did you pay for shipping?

Gonna bump this one...just the once, mind, then I'll go do my own research...
