If you want to do the trib thing, I guess it's OK, but if you're just another bar band, put some of yourself into it. We play scads of Beatles, from just about all periods save SP and MMT. And I'll tell you what: nobody thinks we're trying to sound like a tribute band. Check out this blast from the past for a good laugh.

Greg, No offense taken. I've got nothing against tribute bands. Some are really good, and there's no denying the talent it takes to pull it off well. My hat is off to those folks; they have more perseverance than I.

My only point (which was implied rather than stated) was that aping the mannerisms and faithfully reproducing the music is fine if you're a tribute band. That is, after, your raison d'etre. Otherwise, have some fun with some great songs: a little reggae beat here, a little cut time there, etc.

BTW, I once read that none of the Elvis impersonators look like Elvis, but they all like each other.

There is a band here in Ma. called Beatlejuice led by (the band) Boston frontman Brad Delp who are all over 40, were all successful musicians in their own right before the band was put together but a love of the Beatles brought them together. They don't dress or look like The Beatles but probably play every song The Beatles ever did and are fantastic. It was started as kind of a hobby by Brad about ten years ago and has grown to become an institution around here. Sampling stuff like the orchestra in A day in the Life helps but they are really good. They do all the early stuff and stuff like Strawberry Fields Forever and I am The Eggman and sound just like them. Having Brad Delp as lead singer doesn't hurt either. The first time I saw them there was an old mapleglo 4001 on the stage but it wasn't there the last time I went.
And if you can make money singing and looking like Elvis and enjoy yourself and the people like it, more power to you. I have a friend who went to las Vegas and plays the young Elvis and he makes more money than I will ever make playing ( although I wouldn't want to do that or play in the band either, I helped him a little when he was starting out)

I work at a place where we have and Elvis and Tina Turner impersonaters. So I have and Elvis sighting every day LOL..

The only tribute band I've eveer seen was The Bootleg Beatles in England. It was an outdoor gig in a park, so I made a good point to stand a few hundred feet back and took off my glasses so they would be a little more "believable" in the look-alike department.

I hate to be such a Beatles-dork, but the right-handed Paul ruined it for me.
