I was very worried about the neck width, especially at the nut, but my fears were allayed instantly. The Comstock felt quite natural and both open chords and single note lines flew off the fingerboard.

According to the Ric site, the 730s has a nut neck width of 1 5/8ths & the 700s & 700c at 1 11/16ths.

I love my 730L.

I think it's easier to play than my 2003 Gibson J-160E.

Actually I wanted the thread to generate interest in an acoust only TOPIC. Not just this thread. Probably not enough guitars out there yet.
Bob, would like a 12 string, but with Taylor like electronics.

I read recently about a Rupert Neve designed pickup system and outboard preamp for Taylor guitars, now that would be nice on a RIC acoustic!

Melissa Breitsprecher sez: "My back-up acoustic is a Takamine, and its neck is probably about the same width as the Comstock, but the action is a bit higher and is not nearly as comfortable or responsive to play--since I got the Ric it has been relegated to slide playing!"

My suggestion to you is that you find a competent luthier to set up your Takamine. Regardless of any comparitive quality issues between the Rick and the Takamine in general, it sounds like a little TLC would reap great benefits for you. There's no sense in having a guitar you can't play. Image

Does anybody (Mr. Hall are you out there?) know if Ric is making lefty acoustics? If so what would be the price range on them? When I checked the Southpaw Guitars website, but it doesn't look like they stock any, and they have a good stock of lefty Ric guitars and basses. Would that be a special order item, or is it even possible to get?

I know I'd love to see a Ric lefty 12 string acoustic (with nice built in pickup system). But I'd settle for just one without the pickup system and have one installed myself. That's what I did to my Martin.

R andrew. Perhaps it would be worth asking Rickenbacker themselves on the availability of leftys. [email protected]

Hey Adam, it's kind of funny you mentioned that, because I've been thinking the same thing....because I've actually been stuck playing my Takamine since the day before Christmas Eve, as my Ric's bridge saddle broke when I was re-stringing it, and my local luthier friend was out of town until last week. I will have my Ric back sometime this week, and will ask him to take a look at my Takamine--I just figured that my hand was majorly spoiled by the unbelievably low Ric action.
