I like ruby but I do want black or white. I'll post a picture of mine tonight. From the looks of it, that may be all I have left!

Jared, I had one like that only it was a 4001. One piece guard...It was an 81...Had another 81 with black plastic that was taken from me in Chicago and I miss it!!! This is the reason for getting this one...Does anyone need a black pickup surround? I need chrome for the back pickup...

I've got a question. My 4001 was made in Nov. 75. It is the same Red as the one pictured here. How long did Rickenbacker offer this color? I've heard a lot of people saying that was a very 80's color, however I have seen many 70's 4001's in that color.

Go to
www.the-music-connection.com and check the color chart. Ruby Red was only offered starting in the early 80's..Post a pic of your bass and let's check the color

The picture I was talking about was the red rick with the white pickguard, not the black one. What was the exact color name for that red? Thanks

Chris-
We had a discussion on Red vs Burgundy vs Ruby earlier this month. I don't know how to make a link to it, but the thread was entitled "4001FL with Fretlines." Scroll down towards the bottom on the page that you choose the threads from.

Didn't Bruce Foxton have a ruby 4001 in the late 70s?
