Jim - your Fireglo obsession is really starting to worry me.

Azureglo. But it's your guitar, so make it a color you want!
By the way, it might be worth doing a fret job and refinishing the clearcoat on the neck while you are at it.

I would definitely go with AzureGlo, especially since it was the ORIGINAL color. The grain doesn't look all that spectacular which was a criteria at RIC when using solid colors. Or...how 'bout this...BLUE BURST!...Now that would look awsome!

Great idea Gary. I had John Bolin, who makes Bolin guitars refinish my 4001. He replaced the frets and did a great clearcoat on the body and neck.

Now's definitely the time for a fret job if you're gonna do one. Pull the frets and to the refin, including the fingerboard first. This will give a dead level glossy look to the fingerboard that you will not believe without the clear running right up and over the frets having to be "dressed" off. It's not the way RIC does it but I like it much better on the basses I've done.

Steve, in its original finish that would almost be my dream Rick (give it crushed pearl and walnut wings/no skunk - yes I know you wouldn't see them but that's not the point

- and you're there). What a shame! I vote for a refinish in its original colour. Then you can sell it to me for an enormous profit!

refininishing a Ric ... everybody who has multiple ric basses should seriously consider stripping and refinishing one of them in tung oil ... this will give you a more woody warm mid focused tone ...

I agree with AzureGlo. You don't see too many with the checkerboard and full inlays. It should be brought back to it's original form.

Went and had a meeting with the luthier today - looks like Azureglo is a go! Plenty of the original finish in the electronics cavity for a colour match. Needs a little prep-work of course, but nothing major. No timeline on the project yet, but I'll post updates as I get them. Thanks for everyone's input!
