From previous experience I can attest to the fret grind incured by using the old (70's-80's) roto rounds swing bass strings. They chewed up the frets on my two main touring basses...of course, I probably contributed a bit as I played rock very loud and hard with a pick and a lot of attack and vibrato...If I hadn't switched to ghs rounds and then flats I'm convinced that the rotos would have worn the frets down to the fretboard...I can't comment on their damage to rick frets but I imagine that it's similar.

I killed a 66 Jazz neck in one year with them. They aren't real kind to ric frets either. I also played hard with low action but played with fingers, I think low action has a lot to do with fretwear. Fret buzz is from the string scraping against the next fret up from the note you are playing and it's acting like sandpaper against that string.

I use Elixir strings on my Guild 6-string acoustic, love them, very smooth and easy on the fingers, last a long time too!
