Sorry Einar, I disagree about Spencer bringing the "Union Gap" sound to the band, The Searchers arrangement is totally different to Gary Puckett's, although I do like Gary Puckett, the first time I heard The Searchers do Young Girl, I was knocked out, at concerts especially it has become their own. However I accept not everyone likes it, a friend of mine for over forty years, when Ienthued about it and played it to him, thought they hasd ruined it.
Initially I belive Spencer did influence the band with songs like The Rose, Young Girl both recorded but officially never released by SJ. John himself though, was the one who decided to do "Can't cry hard enough", "In this life"

The Searchers HIT sound in reality ceased to be when they left PYE.
