I need to talk to my drummer about his bass drum head. I've been asked at least 3 times if our band's name is Tama

LOL...

Couldn't miss getting in on this..my latest band, for the last seven years, began as the Dicadillos (don't know how that one orginated) and in time we became, High Beam and the Dimmer Switches... but over the years and exhaustion we reduced it to just "The Dimmers".
My very first band was Fatdawg and the Farm, I was more of an accessory than a member.

I wasn't in this band, but they made a big impression on me at a young age: Dicky Lotion and the 'Baters. They later became Slim and the Drive Thru's. They had this thing where they all shaved their heads except for a little forelock (a la Pebbles Flintstone, only further forward). Each member's hair was a different color (e.g. red, green, blue, yellow). Trust me, this was different stuff in the 70's.

One question - Adam - are you a bass player?

'77-'82 The Stiffs. South Texas punk rock at it's "finest". Don't know where the name came from.
'82-'83 Mayhem. Fairly lame band that I'm not proud of No idea about the name,wasn't my idea!
'83-'85 The Stains. Top 40 cover band. Name came from 3 of the guys being big Stones fans.
'85-'85 The Outlets. New wave cover band. Guitarist and I had a low-rent apartment with no furniture. Looking around the room one day we noticed the only thing on the walls were the outlets, so... Can you guess what the drumhead looked like?
'86-'89 C.O.D. Top 40 cover band. I just remember struggling with a name for a long time.
'90-'92 Trance Farmers. Alt-pop. Already had the name when I joined.
'92-present The Eggmen. Beatles trib band. You can probably guess where the name came from.
'92-'94 Napoleon Blownapart. Jangle pop. Name came to us at a drunken rehearsal.
'94-'98 Nine Worlds. Pop band, a cross between The Smithereens and Cheap Trick. Already had the name when I joined.
'01-present The Daylight Titans. Power pop. From a tune by The Vapors.
'05-present Ouch! Rutles tribute band. Name from the Rutles tune.

We had a heck of time coming up with a name. We eventually settled on Home by 11 because that was the one everyone kind of, sort of liked. 2 members were very tongue in cheek-like. They wanted the Discus Catchers or Liquor Before Noon. The other 2 members were/are very angst ridden. Their suggestions were Wednesday's Child or Entropy. Being the bass player, I just stayed in the middle (laughing all the way)

Ouch! V. Good. I remember when the Rutles first turned up on Public TV, WTTW in Chicago, in (77?). Man, I laughed. Managed to recently find a copy of the album on vinyl for 10 bucks.

The Rutles' drummer was once in the Beach Boys, Holland and Carl and the Passions ('72).

Hey, Jason, I'm in the Springfield area too. Post or email if you're playing out. My next gig is Sat 2/26 at the Firehouse Tavern, 5th & Monroe.

Current band = Inspected By 12. From the underwear tags. We play pop/rock covers and originals.

Former bands in Springfield ('93-'97): Structural Failure (all were engineers by day), and Fat Tuesday (don't know where the name came from, I joined in progress).

Former bands in Oklahoma City ('98-'00): Vent (I guess we were supposed to be angry...grrr - a heavy rock cover/original band) and Box of 64 (from crayons) - all originals with female singer.

THE RAMPANT CARNIVORES is the name of my band & it was so named in honour of my guitarists better half who is vegetarian. I have absolutely nothing against vegetarians, but being a carnivore wasn't enough....we had to be rampant!
Needless to say, she was suitably impressed!

My first high school band was called "Private Eye"
Next up was a prog rock band called "Eclipse" followed by real working rock bands,"Backstreet", "No Comment","Dangerous Types" and "Eleven 11". My latest band went untitled for months until I came up with a name a couple months ago...."Moneyshot"....coming to a bar near you!

Dean, "Fat Tuesday" is the day before Ash Wednesday, and the last day of Mardi Gras or Carnaval.

It's when the jams get kicked out and many wake up with regrets...

Hey Dean - our next time playing out is Fri. 2/25 (a day before you so there's no competition ) in Farmersville. It's a little south of Springfield on I-55. It's a bar called McGuire's on the square. It's not hard to find. We're getting a regular gig there on the first Friday of every month. Apparently the owner has a fish fry on those days and she's looking for something to keep the people in there once they ate all her fish!
