Hi Simon,

You Ric collection is amazing!

It's nice to see that 4005MG of John's in the hands of an avid Ric collector AND player!
It would be a shame for such an instrument to be locked away somewhere and never played.

I used to have some Beat Club footage of The Who with John playing the Maple 4005 , and on the same tape the Bee Gees with Maurice playing his RM1999 which is the one refinished in white and now in the hands of Andrew Winter.
Wish I still them old tapes, if only to drool over the Rics that turned up in the hands of various artists.

How long have you had John's old 4005 Simon?

It's a shame that John Entwistle lost favor of his 4001's as had he continued to do so he would have been the ultimate choice for a signature model.

I think it would be really to cool to have a John Entwistle signature edition 4001....I wonder what features it would have...

Well, John did like Rotosound strings a lot- not to kind on the marginal necks of the late 60's Ricks. They were designed to Rickenbacker flats, after all. Still would be cool to have an Entwistle sig Rick.

Simon, I bet you are right, that pic looks to be right around the Quadrophenia time frame....the hairstyle and all.....

Jeez, how does an old bass like that still have the "ROS" and "Standard" text still in place on the jackplate? They disappear quickly on any bass I've ever owned.

I understand that playing one was like wearing a toaster oven around your neck. The bulbs are automotive brake light bulbs and produce lots of heat. Lack of wear on the jack plate is not a surprise.

Ya know, it wouldn't be hard to retrofit any Ricky guitar or bass with a "Lightshow" setup. Radio Shack used to sell kits that did the same thing that went into speaker cabinets. A more modern version could use LED's and onboard power supply. That swirly plexi-looking stuff on the front looks like the same stuff behind the transporter chamber on Star Trek too. I have too many projects going on right now. Anybody wanna try this?
