I think it is quite hilarious for someone to do a VH tape job on their guitars and then say that they suck.

Even if it is 20 years old, it still gets played on the radio every day...

So I guess I should do a VH job on my bass instead of the flame job?

I never claimed to be normal ... but I do like the look of my taped up 2000 basses ...
Van Halen is not very interesting for a bass player to listen to ... on half of the songs the bass is mixed so low you can't hear it and then on the other half the bass is just playing simple lines ...

One thing Michael Anthony is VERY good at is double stroking 16the notes with his fingers which gives a driving sound to their music. Most bassists would do this with a pick whick sounds too harsh.
Hey Jeff, I double dare ya to do "VH" tape job on a 4003. In fact, I triple dare ya! By the way, are my pickups on the way back to me?

Dane ... yep the high gain with toaster covers went out first class mail monday morning ... they are quieter than a normal high gain but sound different than a toaster ... I put in steel slugs from a dismanteled jazz pickup ... I cut them down so they would be short enough ... some of those iron slugs were a real pain to remove from the high gain pickup ... but the toaster cover hides the scars ...
the nice thing about the tape job is it is reversable ...

I would like to round the edges off of a 4003 bass .. like the mustard bass on ebay ... except I don't want to paint it yellow ...

Thanks Jeff. I just got the pickups back today. Nice job. I hooked one of the "faux toaters" up to a guitar cable and plugged it into my amp while holding it over the strings on my wife's Telecaster as she strummed it. Very full bright sound...best that Tele ever sounded!

On second thought, I may have a better chance with this project if I start with a 4004L. Now I just need to wait a few years to find one that's been beaten to crud so i can do the paint job.
Or do you think I could talk John Hall into doing a custom paint job for me?
