Hi. i use a electro harmonix big muff, into a boost pedal, into a 70s morley power wah. To hear what this creates get a hold of the song Anesthesia(pulling teeth), by metallica's late, best bass player Cliff burton.

Any Rick bass (especially Vintage PU-equipped) is an effect unto itself!

Garry, I agree. You can do so much with just adjustments to EQ to get sound(s) that effects are not needed in many cases. Let the bass do the talking!!

I could'nt survive without my electro-harmonics big muff. I also own a Line 6 Filter Modeler, but its really crazy.

I was doing the Big Muff thing back in 1975 when I was in a band that did alot of Grand Funk Railroad, Hendrix and Cream. It filled the holes when the guitarist was soloing. I couldn't have done it without my 4001 that I still own today.
The bass becomes magical when used in stereo.
I have tried to use a Jazz bass in stereo, it doesn't even come close.

I've been experimenting with the Big Muff and a Line 6 copy of a Mutron 3 envelope follower for a couple of weeks and its amazing! Really cool lead bass tone or for heavy funk.

Garry and John-- You guys seem to have come from the same school I did: the old one. John's line is classic-- "Let the bass do the talking!!" Exactly. Of course, the amp and the speaker cab will have a large part to do with the tone you pull out. But that's all part of the fun......... and the challenge! I mean, come ON, guys! Surely all of us have our Ric basses because of that unmistakeable tone. Why mask it with sound effects? No doubt some of these pedals can legitimately be used for enhancement. Wouldn't they be the exception to the rule?
Just my strictly humble opinion.......

Sea Green, since you asked about effects, one combo that I'm really pleased with is my CS through a Teese RMC III wah pedal. As far as I'm concerned, this is the best one out there - it's variable (take off the bottom cover and there are 5 or 6 adjustable mini-pots), and I find there's no real loss of low end. Think Yessongs version of The Fish.
