Yeah,what does that mean? Anyway,
If I had not seen McCartney w/a Ric.[wings over America 1975]I might not have ever picked up a Ric bass for sure,a guy in my music class played bass[Gibson Les Paul,studio bass] I played trumpet,it was then I wanted to play bass.

If Jimmy Page played a Fender, I would have bought a Fender. What's your point, Ken? If not Macca, Geddy and CS, then someone else would have picked one up and made the same great noise. They would have still been making 'em!
Maybe Bill Wyman would have played one, or Steve Harris, or Tom Petersson. History is what it is.
And I strongly agree with a lot of the problem with the state of the industry as being the attitude of the disposable product. Back in the 60's and 70's, bands were given time to grow, tour, put out a few LP's and find their audience.
Add that to a dizzying array of bands, the generation growing up wanting everything NOW, and the short attention span, and it makes it even harder for a band to remain popular more than 2 or 3 records.

I have to admit, I bought my first Rick because of Geddy and Chris, also Gary Strater of Starcastle at the time. then my best freind bought a burgandy-glo, the rest is history I guess.
Funny how many bass players (myself included), started out on trumpet.

I started on bass, a cheap Japanese j-zz bass copy...but I really wanted ( and bought) a new 82 4001jg when I was 17...I will admit that its use by Mcartney,Squire, the knack, the cars and other bands influenced me...but I wanted the bass because my heroes played them...I fell in love with the bass because of the sound and how I felt playing the rick

Yes, I found out what Rics were from Geddy. However, I had always wanted to play bass, and in fact, my first ever bass heroes that really made me want to play in the beginning were Adam Clayton of U2 and Phil Lesh of the Grateful Dead. I don't believe either of them played Rics.
Even funnier is, I noticed Ged's bass playing at first BECAUSE of the tone, BECAUSE it was a Ric, not the other way around. I heard that sound and went, "Holy **** what is that?! I have to hear more of this!" After listening to more Rush, I became enamored not only with their music, but also with Geddy's bass playing, no matter what bass he used. But I noticed him initially because of the distinctive tone.
Ultimately, it was the fact that SOMEONE was playing a Ric, not the fact that it was my ultimate bass hero, because he wasn't my ultimate bass hero until I heard his playing which was because it was a Ric.
Yeah, that's complicated, but it's true. I play a Ric because it's what made me notice people who became my heroes, not because it's what my heroes played.

Because the progress is built on it. If everybody were always happy with what they had at the moment, chances are nothing new appeared at all. Or not. Who knows? I don't.
RIC do what they do, and that's fine. Some RIC players are absolutely happy with it, some want more. Both "parties" are right IMO...
