Thanks George. Those Hal Leonard sets are fairy ubiquitous (even seen them at computer stores). Thanks for the tip!
By no means have I got an extensive surf music collection (but that can always be remedied)!

Yep..The Hal Leonard books are easy to find and worthwile,,The Pipeline-Solo Guitar volume gives an in depth detail into the mechanics of each tune.

I came across this book, Alfred's
"Surf & Spy Hits" yesterday while killing some time at my local dealer. I think I'm going to go back to the store tomorrow and buy it.

This is a great thread and well worth the time taken to read it. Obviously it deals predominantly with the US perspective, however surf music caught on very quickly in Australia in the early sixties and took on its own unique sound. We even came up with an original dance "The Stomp". You will find a good summary of Aussie surf music here :

There has been a lot of great surf music recorded over the years, all mentioned in this thread. However, being a good patriotic Aussie, not to mention maybe a little bit biased, I would rate "Bombora" by The Atlantics as THE Surf Instrumental. Even though it was re-recorded a few years ago, I still think the original 1963 version is the best. Get a copy and enjoy.
Another notable mention should go to the soundtrack to the early seventies film "Morning Of The Earth". Thirty-five years on it still brings a smile to my face.
We should also thank the producers of Surf Movies, many of whom had a great ear for music and introduced us to artists we probably never would have heard.

Thanks for the link! The guy is very good no doubt..more in a blues form than surf. One of my fave bands who called it a day recently is The Fifty Foot Combo. They really took the style somewhere while keeping the root...
