Thanks. Looks pretty much the same.

It appears to me that there is more wood on Paul's Rick, not less. I wish I had the computer chops to be able to superimpose one image over the other. Any body up for that or is it being nerdy to the extreme?

In comparison to what?

Going back to the pictures you posted with the V63 between 2 RM 1999's, you will see the area on the head of Paul's Rick from the nut on the "G" side to the first point is more tightly radiused and has more wood in it than all 3 of the heads you had pictured. The shape of the heads in your pics on the "G" side has a larger radius which would require more wood to be removed in order to get that particular shape.

What I see is that the headstock is longer between the nut and where the curves begin, which is partly why his headstock is longer than the reissues or current 4003 headstocks. It would be cool to superimpose the shapes to get a better idea.

The C64s is ok with the tuners and their location, but pretty much everything else, especially the TRC shape, is off.

C64S bass side has a longer radius than the macca bass. TR covers are way different

Thanks for the pictures! Anyone notice that Paul's truss rod cover has been changed? The original one in the picture with the Fireglo finish is longer and has no "Made in U.S.A." near the nut. The shorter truss rod cover causes the headstock to appear longer.

Hi Jim -
That probably happened when the zero fret was added to Paul's bass. They would have had to shorten the truss rod cover, maybe a different one was put on then. Thanks, Bill.

Yes, it was changed out in the 70s. However, the pegheads on the 60s basses were actually a bit longer until they changed this too, sometime around 1970-'71...

Hi.....new on this forum.....This is my '89 V63. Originally Jetglo, refinished by it's second owner to a satin Mapleglo.
I have read that the '89's still had a thin neck, this one measures even thinner....probably the stripping/refinishing. I'll post the numbers for the '79 and '89 V63 over in the neck girth thread.
