Oh yeah, Persis Khambatta. Best thing about that movie. Died of a heart attack at 49!

That's excellent news Paul, you plan to have it completed this year does that mean it would be out in time for Christmas 2012?

I've been getting a lot of questions about when and where the book will be available. Time for an update:

Here's how these things generally go. I'll be receiving a contract from the publisher (Hal Leonard/BackBeat Books) in the next few weeks. I won't go into the specifics, but generally the contract will set forth a delivery date of my book to the publisher, and our agreement on compensation. Once I deliver the book to the publisher, they will in effect own the book which they have in essence bought from me. There will likely be agreements on subsequent publishings, foreign language editions, electronic editions, aps, etc. as well. But once it is out of my hands, all the rest of the work will be theirs to do how and when they see fit. They will carry out all the necessary actions to get the work published (copyright, printing, binding, marketing, shipping, selling, and making money). While I may receive a few copies as part of my compensation, I will not be "selling" the book myself, so no need to form a line to my right. I will also be receiving royalties, so the more the book sells, the better! :D If the book sells really well, they might go to a second printing or a second edition which might allow me to make changes to the book for corrections (hope not), updates (hope so) or additions (yeah!).

I will be agreeing to deliver the book to the publisher by the end of this calendar year (2012), but I hope to do so by summer and ahead of schedule. I do not know when they plan to issue the book at this time, but will likely be advised. Once the book is "out" it should be available everywhere good books are sold. You won't be coming to me to find one, but to your Barnes & Noble, Amazon, etc. Hal Leonard is the world's largest publisher of music books (a lot of sheet music, songbooks, and reference books like mine), so there shouldn't be any problem finding the title. I will be pleased to autograph books for you, but you'll have to see me or get the book to me as I won't be distributing autographed copies myself. Key contributors to the book will be getting complimentary copies from me, but I ain't naming names yet.

So hang in there. I've got a lot of work ahead, and with your cooperation and patience, we'll get this done!

Latest news:

I was hoping to have a phone interview with Chris Squire over the last weekend, but we didn't connect. Chris asked that we do the interview from which I will write his foreword for his approval. So, still working on that.

Today, I received the contract from Hal Leonard/BackBeat Books !!!! When I sign it and send it in, it will be official! Now the hard work of converting the book I've designed into their system for printing and writing up the final 30% or so that has yet to be done (chapters on anatomy, 4003, 4003S, 4003S/5, 4003S/8, 4008, colors, and one-off/customs/mods. I have to deliver the book by December, but hope to do so by summer. I'll keep you posted.

This really must be a labor of love for you Paul as the financial rewards couldn't possibly recoup the time you have in it. Although I certainly hope that it will as it is well deserved!

I know that it will be a great edition to my book shelf and will be treasured. It's the labor of love that I know will make this a spectacular book.
