Aitch --- that chord progression (Em+9 et al) posted in your message the other day, that you mention recording, looks awfully familar ! Are you going to "Breathe" a little bit of life into ICBM with some Dark Side of the Moon....? Hope you and Brian are able to over-dub tracks and share some more enjoyable recordings with us all.
Cordially Rich F.

You've sprung me, Rich!! :D

The chords are very similar although I think in 'Breathe' the E chord is Emadd2. Some of the live versions have Em7add9 in the reprise.

What Brian and I were working on was much more up tempo than 'Breathe' and we only got as far as the verse and chorus chords. I'll have to do some mucking around with a bridge and perhaps a change of key for the soaring 'Medway solo'.

The 'thingie' chord is apparently one that REM have used from time to time:

O|-------
O|-------
|-o-----
|---o---
|---o---
X|--------

Aitch --- any further status report on ICBM's new recording ??
Outtakes or unfinshed works in progress to share ?
You mentioned Brian's searing solo, and we know its a jazzed up chord pattern that has some Floydian character to it - so don't keep teasing us !
Regards - Rich F.

Nothing yet, Richard. Don't hold your breath, my friend....... Brian and I both have heaps on work wise and there's not much chance of anything happening until I get over there - hopefully August/September.

Howard knows about this but it's more of a solo project that I have been working on for about three months now. It's not finished but it's close. The biggest probelm I am having is lack of time and a memory (mine)/software issue. I have forgotten how to take a combination midi and analogue file produced in Cakewalk and export it to an mp3 format.

Once I have figured that out, I will have a "first cut demo" of "Georgia" ready for Howard to give me his contribution, assuming he finds a nice groove to put his rhthym track into.

Howard and I worked a bit on this song when I was in Australia. It has been a dream of mine for many years to record a version of Georgia that I have heard in my head for so long, so it is a given that it will eventually get finished.

Between my stupidly insane work load and more travelling than I need since I got back from Oz, I managed to create an arrangement that is close to my vision of it and one that I believe works. The proof of the pudding is always in the eating though. So time will tell.

FYI it has loads of piano and guitar work in it. The piano part is always tough for me because that is not my primary instrument. That's why I record it in midi. That way I can make adjustments after the fact to bring it up to a reasonable standard.

Stay tuned and be patient Rich. Assuming we are satisfied with the result, we'll send you a copy when we get all this stuff sorted out. I need to have more time available to me to devote the proper amount of attention to this project and as you can see Aitch is in the same boat.

Thanks for being our biggest and probably our only remaining fan.

In Sync and spooky, Brian!! I was working on the chords for Georgia just before I read this post! I seem to have lost track of where we were in December and the minor changes we made to the chord pattern. I think I have "our" version tabbed somewhere - I did it for the Nighthawk jam - so I'll dig it out and work on it. Wish I could find a nice version of the song in C! :x

Aitch,

I have made some structural and timing changes so wait until I can get you an mp3 before you do too much work on the old arrangement. This all came about as a result of trial and error, in other words recording parts in real time until I was satisfied that it had a sort of traditional feel. I had a tough time with this song. For me it was a difficult song to play on piano. Especially when it came to putting the little frills in the places that I wanted them and trying to make the track sound relaxed and in the pocket.

Conversely, I did the rather extensive lead solo in one take. That's obviously my main instrument, in case there was any doubt.

Cool, Brian...... no worries. I've got plenty of other stuff to work on in the interim, so hang loose, mate. :D

Aitch,

I forgot to mention that the lead solo was done on my 360v64 through my Peavey 212 Stereo Chorus using a teeny amount of onboard reverb and chorus. My son who is Strat player, listened to the early mix and asked me which guitar I had used. He was blown away. He thought I had used my Les Paul with an outboard effect of some sort.

That says a lot to be able to effectively use the v64 in a song that most players would almost automatically reach over to pick up their Les Paul or Strat to play the lead part.

I must say that I think it produced a very cool sounding guitar lead. I am amazed how distinctive a Rick can sound as a blues/jazz instrument as well . The experiment will continue into the future as far as I am concerned.
