So far, this idea makes the most sense. 8) It gives us a true indicator of the new member's purpose.

It all depends upon how we define "nonsense" - I don't want to see Scotty being reset to zero..... or myself for that matter....

Well, I don't know about that. He said, "I suppose we could just reset the post count for members who just post nonsense..." Dang, I suppose I'll have to start over too...

Oh wait, if read the whole sentence, it says "... post nonsense to gain access to the restricted areas..." So, I think we're probably OK since we post nonsense just for the fun of it, not to gain access to anything...

No nonsense?! Hmmm.
On a serious note, while i do understand that nobody wants to be fooled/scammed and that not having full trust in somebody we don't know is entirely human — we've all (apart from Peter who has created this site) been "newbies" at some point. Anyone remembers that time? Did it ever feel like, "looks like they don't trust me cause i am new and i have to prove that i'm not a bad person"? Ever been "discussed" behind your back (along with a bunch of other "newbies") and maybe even without you knowing? That kind of attitude to new members which can be seen at some points in this thread may really be more effective in turning people off than "30 posts rule". Not that it matters much, of course, cause once somebody has a strong will to join a certain community and feel like home there, he/she is usually ready to face that kind of attitude until "proved innocent". But still.

If this is turning people off, then they probably are just after a cheap guitar/bass. The RRF is the only forum I keep visiting - no people trolling, no group of cronies of the owner who can do and say whatever they want, no bullying etc. This is a mighty fine forum, and if people miss that because they're just looking for a cheap guitar, then they're probably not worthy of spending time here anyway! There's a few rules that might sound tough, but the result is a great, friendly forum.

I see your point, Werner. Well... maybe you're right. In many cases, that is probably the case. In some others — well, some people are just a bit too shy and to some points vulnerable to the attitude they may find "unfriendly". It's not that you, or anybody else (yours truly included) should lose sleep over that fact, more like i was trying to say, "please please try to be nicer to newbies, they may turn out to be really good people even though you may not notice that at first glance when they're making their first "baby steps" — cause later, it may be too late to change the vibe once a certain attitude is built".

Well said, Sheena.

You're right, that some posts, well meant, can come across as rude. But then the same counts for emails - how many business emails I get a day that sound rude just because they're using as little words as possible, if I dind't know the person I might think they're always in a bad mood, or always mad at me. Unlike email from a person you never met, at least on the forum you can read threads and posts and see we're not a bunch of meanies at RRF :D

Absolutely, Werner. Been there, seen that. Thing that happens quite often, even in real life when you can see the person you're talking to, and online, it's even harder to get everything right. Emoticons don't help much. Oh well. Looks like there's no disagreement, after all.

All great points. I am enjoying the discussion here. Sharing our concerns with others is at the heart of many issues in this thread. Carefully chosen words and a healthy respect for others allows most persons to communicate effectively.
