Wints what can one say.... Bee-U-tee-ful! pics indeed welcomed. I think that color it should be a Ric standard. And Mark the is one mean *** looking bass.... I just don't understand how you keep finger prints off of it. I love the sounds you get out of it.

Can't say I'm able to keep the finger prints off! I just follow up with lots of buffing.

Nice set of grain you have there John. Any stories to go along with them?

Thanks Tom! I got the 4004C from John Biscuti as my second Rick - it originally was Ron Plitcha's. The 4003S I am the second owner of. I got it from a guitarist in Pittsburg who had it for his studio and it was pretty clean - had the hang tag in the case. It did have substantial taillift with the high tension LaBella strings it came with. I had to do the DoctorWho treatment then add two screws. As for the V63, that was Kevin's and I wanted to get it but was shot down, then my father passed and I got a little inheritance and since he bought me my first bass in 1968, I figured this would be him getting me another bass, though a whole lot better and nicer looking! I lucked out that Kevin was having separation angst with it and it was still available when I could get it.
Actually when I think about it, all 5 of my Ricks have a story. But I'd wager it is also true for everyone here.

Very cool tales John. To me the pictures are just part of the thing here... the stories -how the instruments are come by, happenins with them etc make it even more special. Speaking as a dad you did the right thing! Neat that the 4004 was 'kept in the family' so to speak. And again - love the grain! Thanks for sharing (pics and history).

John, I agree with Tom, very cool tales. Watching the collections of members grow is fun and interesting. I love the pedal in your avatar also!
You'll have to pick a month for your '75 4001. I have to pick a month for my '75 4001FL and it's story.

Once again, thanks Tom. I like reading about how others acquired their basses also. Always a good story.
Joey, I think I picked Nov. or Dec. for "our" '75 4001. I'd have to look back in this thread to be sure but it's time to get ready for work. Oh, and my avatar is a picture of a medallion off a German tractor.

So John, now that you've got that gorgeous v63, I suppose the 4003s has become superfluous?
You know what to do. You have my shipping address.

Dang, I've owned 28 Rickenbackers and not a single one from May! I do have one that I'm missing the serial number for that I picked up new in June '06 from Sam Ash; I suspect that one may be a May.

What, you going to refin it for me into a 4001CS?!

If I decide it moves, you'll be the first to know.
