I'm sure it's quite entertaining watching us squirm!

Hear, hear! I'm having a beer to toast you as I type!gareth wrote:It's the one model that I sold. It was OK, but I just couldn't get "that" sound out of it. I'm one of those that like the capped sound. I also didn't like the neck profile as much as the 4001's. There was nothing wrong with it, but it needed to go to someone who would play it. It was just gather ing dust next to my 4001s. Back when I sold it, they weren't offering the vintage tone mod, so that might have made a difference...s4001 wrote:I'll be the heretic and say 'no way.' 4003's are an improvement.
I know that the cap vs. no cap issue is very black and white with some folks, but I'm a vintage tone guy as well. I ended up using two of the .0047 uF caps on my late 90's 4003 to get close to the classic sound. RIght now it is permanent, but I don't really want to switch it in and out. I also got more tone control effect. The nice aspect is that the neck pickup added enough bass to more than make up for the extreme bass roll-off on the bridge pickup. With the right pickup blend, my 4003 comes the closest to my ideal sound.
I'm still betting on a new bass model with active pickups.

"Flip" -- could be just flipping the headstock back on the C64, but I also wonder if RIC might do something like have a Paul McCartney certified limited edition? Maybe even a Sgt. Pepper/MMT paint job? That would be something "flippable." Hmm.

No Offense to Sir Paul but he took a beautiful Fireglo and with some paint ruined a beautiful Finish. I think his paint job was hap-hazard and ugly. But It's Macca and no one is going to be upset about it since it's MG finish now .
a piece of Ugly Rock history but so is Keith Richards but you can't sand him down to MG

I think the "flip" comment from Ben could very well mean that whatever is coming next in the 4000 line will have the standard headstock. We all know how JH likes to play with words. I'm sure he's passed this trait onto Ben

That's certainly how I took it. Unless they're going the thunderbird route and flipping the entire body.aceonbass wrote:I think the "flip" comment from Ben could very well mean that whatever is coming next in the 4000 line will have the standard headstock. Wasn't this called "the Walker route"?jakeox wrote: That's certainly how I took it. Unless they're going the thunderbird route and flipping the entire body.

Re: Be prepared to flip out!!!
I'm praying to whatever god will listen that they do something really innovative and vanguard if they aren't going to revive the 4002. Actually I kind've think it'd be cool (though extremely controversial) if they would just ditch the Horseshoe pickup rout on the 4003 and go for something much more minimal, maybe in the same vein as the 4004. Two "neck Hi-Gains" in a 4003 would really be a totally different bass. Maybe they could offer something like this with different wood choices alongside the "classic" 4003 we have now, which I must say I thoroughly approve of.
But we aren't the ones steering the wheel...

Re: Be prepared to flip out!!!
When I modded my 4004Cii TR to look more like a 4001S, actually stopped after the guard, controls, tuner and TRC swap and pondered that very question. I decided that the pickup just sitting there in the middle of the body with no big chrome surround around it looked just wrong, so I continued to the point it's at now.
Re: Be prepared to flip out!!!
If we take Ben's "flip out" statement, and combine it with those special FISH OUT OF WATER basses.....the headstock could be what he's referring to....but that seems TOO EASY!

Now this thread is reaching into the "#9 Turn me on deadman" 28 IF, I WAS, I buried Paul realm.
