A friend of mine has a footpump organ. He has used it to provide the soundtrack to silent films at his home; he is a film collector and has a truly huge collection of films in 16mm and 35mm, with a nice little theater in his basement.

Clearing out some stuff in the basement, I came across an album of photos of my band back in 1983. Extra points for anyone who can identify the bass...

Ding ding! It's a Washburn Vulture - one of the Wing series guitars and basses from the late '70s/early '80s. It was a rather fine instrument - neck-thru construction - but what you don't see is the permanent furrow in my right arm from keeping the thing in a playing position. Talk about neck-heavy...

This is from around 1990, playing at the Bayou in Georgetown, Washington DC (sadly been demolished).

I bought the Gretsch with no case from a pawn shop for $300. There wasn't much of an Internet to research it then, but I found a book in the library (I think Gruhn's Guide) that led me to think (from the sticker inside the guitar) that it was a '59. Thumbnail markers, ebony board. It had been modified - had a Filtertron in the neck, a Dimarzio humbucker in the bridge, and an extra control pot on the pickguard. With only one toggle switch, I assume it originally was a single-pickup guitar. Wish I'd never sold it, but I did after a few years for what I thought was a good profit -- $600 (but with a $100 case thrown in)

Bizarre... I linked to my Picasa web photo album and can view it here in Safari, but it's a black block in Firefox. And now when I check Picasa itself, it has a viewable thumbnail, yet clicking it to view full size results in the black box (on Firefox). I'll try attaching the photo instead of linking.

(Also works correctly in Opera. Looks like a Firefox bug related to how Picasa writes the JPEG).
