Another history lesson yesterday. We went to Rochester to check out some bits and pieces. I'm afraid the pics aren't too good...... the grey, wet English weather that I was expecting had arrived.

Of course the expedition started with the obligatory lunch at an old (of course) pub. The Leather Bottle in Cobham was built in 1629 and was regularly visited by Charles Dickens. Lovely old place and a great meal!!
Next was Rochester Castle - a fine example of Norman architecture, commenced in 1080, would you believe??

Next was Rochester Cathedral..... founded in 604 with the current structure commenced in 1080:
It's quite a strange feeling wandering around old churches..... there are many inscribed stones in the floor and you can't help feeling like you're walking on top of somebody.

We then wandered down the historic High Street and saw some lovely old architecture, including a few wonky buildings. This one is doing its best to meet the one next door!
Then off to Upnor Castle for a quick peek and a refreshing pint in the Kings Arms before picking up a bass for Pete Levett. Upnor itself is very quaint and again has some lovely architecture:
Last night we went to a music quiz night with a couple of Graham's mates. I managed to assist in a very small way and kept up the team's performance record..... always finishing third!!

The Guinness was only two and a half quid a pint.... made the evening an even better one!!

Graham has finally trusted me with one of his guitars..... a Jetglo 1997SPC, so this morning I had my first play of any substance during the trip!! Played some AC/DC and Beatles stuff through the Vox headphone amp. Talk about two ends of the spectrum!! I was pretty rusty, too......

It looks like we'll be popping back into London this afternoon. Might find a pub that's televising the cricket and relax with a pint or two. Tonight we're off to a twilight race meeting.... hope I don't lose my shirt!!

Great night at the races!!

I had two wins and three places out of seven races..... came out ahead on the night.

Graham had no wins and no places......... not even a sniff!!!

I think you are on to something there Jeff, well you've heard of the saying 'Use a sprat to catch a mackerel' haven't you?

I think "use a prat to catch a free lunch" might be closer to the mark, Pete.
