Its a phony Jeff, I bought a hacked up 4001 and converted it. Someday when I find the right authentic 4000 I'll buy it and restore this one back to its original 1976 4001 status. Oh, and before anyone notices, yes, those are fender strap buttons. Its the one thing I forgot to order. Here's a closeup.

Cheyenne: Very nice photo. I love the way those finishes go together.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Thats the original '76 bridge pickup. Some idiot replaced the neck pickup with some dimarzioish monstrosity. If/when I truly restore this bass I'll drop a toaster in the vintage position.

Oh, and by the way, I'd really like to thank everyone who sent emails with all the information I needed to make her as correct as possible. And to everyone who chimed in with suggestions here on the forum. And to Peter McCormack, whom without him non of this would have happened at all.Image

Looks great Scott! But why is the neck binding white and the body binding black? Weird, but... it looks cool!

The bass was originally white, but was completely stripped down to the sealer coat when I found her. I liked the maple / black trim combo so I just finished her clear. By the way Rob, thanks for your input on the rods.

No problem! How did you ever get them out of there, anyway? Lots of prying, bending and cussing? Works for me... Image
