Hi Nate,

don't be sad! I also played a single bass for more than 10 years and only after 6 years it was an original Rick 4001. Your '76 model surely has a great sound, I believe. I only have newer Ricks as I could not afford the early '73 4001 fireglo in a decent condition, I'm dreaming of.

Best regards
Peter

Nothing wrong with owning a single Ric. I played the same 73-4001 from early 73, till late 96 when she was stolen, and then a nice new 97 4003, which I've still got.

I was a single Ric owner for over 30 years till I fell in with this lot. I got my second ric, a wonderful 92 v63 in October 2004.. Now I'm after another, maybe a 4003-s5, or s8, or another v63 all Fireglo of course, hmmmm Fireglo !!!

Only had one bass from 1981-1992, my 75 4001 Burundy.

In 1992 I bought a fretless J Bass...but by then I had bought my 1966 Fender Mustang guitar.

In 1996 I bought an Epiphone acoustic...

Didn't get my 2nd Rick until 2001, when I bought a new 650 Dakota. A few months later I bought my 3rd electric guitar, a 1986 MIJ Strat...

By this point I was playing guitar full time...almost no bass.

And now, in 2005, I got my 3rd Rick, and 2nd Rick bass...a 2004 Fireglo Laredo. Pics of that one are in the thread about my glee regarding that transaction! Image

I have one real bass... that's the Cheyenne II... which I'm not selling anymore!

The rest are mere mouse farts. *wink* Image

Well I've had plenty of basses. My first was a P-bass copy. It was a Johnson but I got made fun of because I played with my Johnson. I sold that and then I got a Dean Edge 5 string. I played that for exactly a year, during that time a got a ****** Hofner copy. It was red through, heh. Then I got the Ric and I sold the others. The Ric gave me the sound I wanted. Now I wont buy another bass unless is has a high treble sound to it... no fat bottom P-bass sound. I'm getting a custom bass now, but that'll take until December. I'll always keep the Ric. All those and I've only been playing 3 years.

Nate, weren't you told never play with your Johnson.

I was expecting that. It had the natural wood look too. So I was playing with a woody. Strap on. I've heard em all.

been playing 3 years too - first bass was a metallic green squier p bass special. A lot of squiers are real nice but this was a DOG, really light and way too resonant plywood body, the tinyest neck youve ever seen on a fender p/j, and awful tinny pickups. nasty. Replaced by a black Mexican fender P just so i had a solid instrument to gig with. Still got that bass, sometimes use it on occasion. Then got the finest bass on earth, my 1991 white 4003. Then i got a 73 4001 on ebay which was IMHO junk, so resold it for a profit and got my 2004 burgunday 4003.

First bass was a Ric, followed closely (literally a day or two) by a Lakland.
