That is a great set of videos of a show I had never seen before. Compare this to Live at Budokan a year later, and you see that sometimes they played and sang really, really well in a live setting (Budokan not being one of them...).
I just got "The Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show" DVD and watched it last night. I found that their final appearance (Sept 1966) was the same set as the Blackpool show above. Ringo talks about being nervous and singing off key; George introduces Yesterday. John messes up the lyrics to Help in a couple spots (on the Sullivan show).

In Anthology 1 George says that they were "really horrible" during the 1960 Scotland tour with Johnny Gentle. He says that they didn't even have amps. That's pretty hard to believe given that Gentle certainly had a mic and there would have been virtually no sounds at all coming out of George's Futurama had it not been amplified.
George's memory was obviously faulty as it appears that he was definitely plugged into
something.
