Opinions (here) tend to be divided on the Birch - for some, it's nothing more than a Rickenfaker - for others it's a very collectable 1976 custom made bass, that has a lot 'more than a passing resemblance' to the 4001 design.
At gigs, I get a lot of bassists casting an eye over it. It sounds a bit jazz bass-ish, not like a Ric.
I'm astonished that JB got away with it back then. Don't think much of the new ones his old company are turning out now, though.
Saw that Rockinbetter 330 guitar copy in Blackpool again on Sunday. Would fool people from a distance. Wonder what they sound like?
