I've got one of the basses in that Bass Culture book, the '59 blonde EB2 - still got the same strings on it. Boom, boom, boomty boom, as it says in the book....

Looks like a fun time, Ian. Ehhh, I like the blue one - too many knobs on that Bircher! :D ;)

Opinions (here) tend to be divided on the Birch - for some, it's nothing more than a Rickenfaker - for others it's a very collectable 1976 custom made bass, that has a lot 'more than a passing resemblance' to the 4001 design.

At gigs, I get a lot of bassists casting an eye over it. It sounds a bit jazz bass-ish, not like a Ric.

I'm astonished that JB got away with it back then. Don't think much of the new ones his old company are turning out now, though.

Saw that Rockinbetter 330 guitar copy in Blackpool again on Sunday. Would fool people from a distance. Wonder what they sound like?

Here are a couple of pics of non-Forum players with their Ricks. Sharon Vargas - I don't know this person, but YOW! - what a cutie! (and Sharon's kind of easy on the eyes, too.)

And who could forget Japanese anime icon Haruhara Haruko - seen here with her 4003LH.

Here I am at last night's open mic at the local pub playing my new '72 4001 that I got from Chris Pappas (Thanks Chris, more on this bass to come).

Below is the week before on my '81 4001S Fretless.

Sharon seems to have one of those "magnetic" Rics that needs no strap, it just stays there by virtue of,,,,,,,,,,,,,I don't know, anti-gravity?

Look very closely and you will see a black strap... black on black top is hard to see.

Sheena, there is nothing as lovely as a girl and her guitar, especially you and your Ric!
