Also, with brand new strings, my 4000 sounds almost like Entwhistle's piano sound if you play it like your fingers are the hammers on a piano, which is exactly what I saw him doing on some film footage from the early '70's, I believe.

Hmmm, missed this thread this week.

I'm curious as to why, with a backlog of well over a year, there would be any incentive whatsoever at this juncture to introduce more options/models that would undoubtedly extend the wait time even more?

I personally haven't cared about a "professional" endorsing any product I may use since I was about twelve years old.

Ok, I just took DAVES photo above, copied it, resized a picture I have TO THE EXACT SAME MEASUREMENTS, and the !%^#*@!)*#$&$ site tells me ITS TOO BIG?!?!?

I paid $600.00 in '91 for an '87 Persuader in mint condition with the case! The mint '84 Spoiler/Exploiter I had cost me $1000.00. With the case.

BTW, I believe you have a Status Buzzard 2 (now the B2). I'd be interested to hear you're opinion of it, as it's something I'm considering for the future.

Jeff, I paid $900 for an '87 Persuader back in 1997; it was a good bass but when a brand new V63 came up, I traded it plus 500 for the V63. Unfortunetly, it was a GC floor model and the only RIC lemon I came across so far. The neck had a bad twist and could never be straightened. SO that bass went out the door and I got my 1974 Precision in return, which I still have. BUt man did I take it on the nose on that one...

Hi Shaun - love to see pics of your Alembic! Mine's walnut fronted, with the dummy pickup (but not the adjustment round the back to cancel out the hum - not sure of the exact model name). I'm lucky to have a Buzzard 1 and 2 by Status (VERY lucky with the Buzzard 1 judging by the price a second hand one on UK ebay is climbing to currently!), Both excellent basses in sound and feel - frighteningly rigid feeling necks on both - very different experience to any Rick I've played - and I liked the electrics so much I had them installed in a further bass I had built locally last year. The Buzzard 2 is way more practical - on a small stage you'll have someone's eye out with the Buzzard 1.....

Hi Simon, interested to hear your take on the Buzzards, thanks. I did briefly consider a Buzzard 1 just before ordering my Alembic, but as I'd wanted a Triple O for nigh on 20 years the Buzzard lost out; a shame as they've had to stop making them (thanks to Warwick...). Yep, seen the one on ebay....if only I had the money! Still I'd be quite happy with a Buzzard 2 (sorry, B2 now they can't use the term Buzzard..). What's the weight of the B2 like? (bad back I'm afraid). I've had a few Statuses and do really like them but have had some ergonomic issues with the original Status shape, so I haven't found the perfect one yet....

With regards to the "having someone's eye out" thing, I once smashed our singer's nose with my old Jaydee....

My Triple O is walnut front and back, also with the dummy hum canceller. Its an MK Signature Standard model with various options. You didn't get yours from the Bass Centre/House of Guitars did you? Only I played one there that had been sold which finally decided me on ordering mine (this was probably a couple of years ago)....I'll send you some pics asap. It'd be strange if playing yours led to me ordering mine! Small world....wouldn't like to paint it though.

Resizing the photo in Photoshop only makes it smaller physically. You have to reduce the MB size of the file to acceptable size. First, reduce the resolution to 72 if you haven't already by opening "image size" and changing whatever value is in the box at the bottom of the window. This might also shrink the pic for you. Then, if you save as a JPG, reduce quality to 5 or less. You can also try saving the pic as a GIF under "Save for Web." This usually isn't good for faces and things like basses because they have subtle color variations and you sometimes wind up with splotches of lost color.

Hi Shaun - just emailed you! Sounds very much like you may have played the triple O I bought!!! As for weight of the B2, I must admit it feels pretty heavy - a lot of timber in that swept up body. The Buzzard1, on the other hand... I tried one of John Entwistle's at the Sotheby's auction preview. I had the B2 already, but assumed the B1 would be heavy and unwieldy - picked it up and nearly threw it through the ceiling! made of feathers, clearly!

Hmmm, the B2 sounds like I suspected. Pity I can't stretch to a B1, sounds right up my street! "Made of feathers", LOL! They're supposed to be around 7 lbs.....just out of interest, what was the action like on John's bass?

Hi Shaun - every one of his "working" basses at the Sothebys auction was setup ridiculously low! - the alembics - well, to be honest I assumed the necks had bowed back initially, until as I worked my way through them all (it was a LONG day!)I realised that I'm just heavyhanded and hamfisted! obviously the carbon fibre of the Status redefines low action if that's what you want, but it seems I'm such an insensitive player I just can't get worked up about a really low action -no bad thing, that's what decades of punk rock do to you, I guess!!!!!!

I believe John's quote on how he liked the action set on his basses was that he liked the strings "in the fretboard."

72 dot per inch resolution for photos, guys. Larger digital cameras will take 180+. That's why your files are too big.
