I used to have a Spector NS-1 that had a volume, pan and two tones, I've got a custom made 5-string built by a luthier friend of mine, with the full Bartolini system in it. That Bart electronics on it are set up in a volume, pan, bass-treble stack pot, with a mid boost pot.
The pick up pan is a very handy tone adjusting tool, not too hard to wire in and Ohh so much better than a 3-way switch. That is if you're going modern and the 4004 is a more modern configuration, at least that's my take on it.

I love the vol vol tone setup on my 4004L5 ... I run the tone at 10 the bridge pickup at 10 and the neck pickup at 7 to 5

I got my 4004Cii today from Mike Parks. It is beautiful! The finish is glossy all over including the fingerboard. I will have to do a setup on it as far as truss rod and bridge adjustments, but the nut is set up just right. Got go play for a while...

Yes that's the one. The photos made it look like a satin finish but it has a beautiful gloss. The Bubinga fingerboard has very nice figuring in it. I did a basic setup this evening but I will see how the trussrods have settled in tomorrow; they may need some more tightening as I'd like the fingerboard flatter than it is now.
The sound will take a little getting used to, it has more lower mids than typical for a Rick. I can actually get a decent Jaco tone out of the bridge pickup, which will come in handy. I will use it as is for awhile before I think about wiring the controls differently.
The neck is definitely fatter feeling than my others also but not uncomfortably so; it will most likely feel better once I put TI flats or rounds on it with their lower tension, I haven't decided which yet.
By the way, her name is Claudia! I found her name when I removed the TRC.

My S/N is 03 24108. The warranty card says Claudia was made in June of '03.

Jeffrey, how did her name come to you when removing her TRC? I'd love to hear about the happening.
I feel that giving my basses female names makes me very connected and attached to them...sort of like they're soul mates to me. Sometimes I just call them "girl" or "baby" and talk to them. My wife gets jealous when I do that!

Paul, just do what I do with my wife - put a RIC TRC on her head and an old set of bass strings, take a picture of her with your basses, call her by her name and she'll fit right in with your basses.

Ha! She thinks that old retired Dean Markley roundwound set in the drawer will put too much tension on her neck and prefers the T-I flats on my Annie and Sophie. So we'll have to wait till those T-I's bite the dust and I suppose that will be a looooong wait! She doesn't care for the Rotos on my Amber and the Pyramids on my Michelle either, saying they feel a bit stiff...
Oh by the way, she insists on wearing the clear plexi TRC of my Akiko (meaning "Autumn Girl" in the Japanese language which my mother speaks and is actually her Japanese name).

Paul,
I found her name in the truss rod cavity! She looked me in the eye and said "Hi, I'm Claudia and I'm yours". Anybody know a Claudia at RIC? I'd like to see what she looks like; then again perhaps fantasies are better sometimes!
