Yeah, I'm just looking forward to knowing when it's available and how much it will be. I have been holding off on a 2006 4003 to see what's coming out. If it's a very short run, these anniversary editions could be alot more expensive coudn't they? Would you think double the standard cost, or more?

I sure hope they aren't DOUBLE the cost, that would hurt!

I would think (hope?) it will be more like a COY release. $100 extra for the special finish. Perhaps some more for any 'extra' 75th bits and pieces.

I just hope I can buy a Horseshoe for my Desert Gold 4003. There was some talk of perhaps a few "options" coming available.

Black Diamond Burst is going to look killer!

I've been off on vacation all week and just waded through this thread and I gotta go along with Ethan - I believe a 3D effect silvery fleck JetGlo finish. A JetDiamondGlo....

Jetglo and silver burst? That would be waaaaaay cool.... I recently saw a Les Paul with a finish like that in a Musician's Friend catalog, and my immediate reaction was, "that would be a really cool finish for a Ric!"

When those Les Pauls originally came out ('70s or '80s) the silver would turn green in time. They dropped them because nobody wanted them. Now they have become a classic so silver burst is back in production.

A quick review of where we are. John Hall told us a few days ago that we'd "narrowed it down to a special color. A metallic color, actually."

In reference to Brian's suggestion that the color be offered on the 4004 model bass, Mr. Hall advised us that "for some reasons [note the plural] which will be apparent, that's not going to happen." Ben chimed in and said, "Agreed. Not so much."

We found out that the special color had appeared on a 650 used at a Starship gig. Mr. Hall said, "For what it's worth, the 650 is ... what's the expression ... a red herring? A wild cherry? Whatever." That brought a tell-tale response from Paul: "Har."

Dean suggested that the new color could involve translucent fireglo over a base of silver with a special pickguard. Bitzerguy said, "Dean, I think you hit a homer." Paul said, "I think he struck out, personally ..." There are three elements to Dean's suggestion. I assume that sriking out (i.e. three strikes) means that each of them is faulty somehow.

Eric said that the "color combos/options being tossed out there are very interesting." I took this as an indication that none of them were correct.

Then we've got the whole red herring business. Paul told us that herrings "are not red. They're silver. And brown." In a previous post, Paul had averred to the famed Silver Surfer.

Paul also told us that his "bandmate has a pearl white Mosrite with brown (tortoise shell) binding."

His next post said: "Definitely a nautical, watery theme." It wasn't clear whether this was a reference to the Mosrite, or the new color.

Mr. Hall then entered the fray again, saying "Isn't there a drink called Cherry Herring? That would be appropriate in this case." In answer to a suggestion that the 650 was "sorta blonde", he told us that the guitar in question was "not even remotely sorta blonde."

We've also been told that the performance at the Starship gig was "solid".

Any new ideas? It sounds like it might be a really unique combination of things: a deep (almost black) metallic burgundy with some kind of tortoise shell guards? A pearlescent burgundy? A deep metallic brown with pearl guards? But then where does the "silver" fit in?
