Is there anyone who suffers from v63's high tension strings? I realized it is not related with the string type or the set up of the bass. There is obviously big different between 4001 and couple of 4003's I have and my v63. Am I the only one who experience it or is this normal? I really wonder it.

String tension is a function of how the strings are made and what they are made of.

There is absolutely no way the 4001V63 has higher tension strings--it would have to be a bass that was meant to be set up radically different from a 4001/4003 and/or it would need to have a longer scale. Sorry... looks like you just need to get it set up.

Sorry, I couldn't express myself in English correctly. and I am not sure if I can do now What I am trying to say is, it is not related with the string cague etc. And bass is also in very good set up now. But there is considerable amount of playability difference between v63 and 4003's. v63 stirngs are much more streched than 4003's. I changed strings but the result was the same. Maybe it is just special case on my v63

that v63 looks like mine. Just look at and listen first 30 seconds, I can feel and hear that bass has streched strings (I still couldn^'t find the right words ), mine is also like that. Look at the pick and string relation, and the sound it produces, do not you think it is harder to play it than any 4003's or 4001's.
Ok it looks like I should use English more, it really dissapears if you don't use regularly

Metin, your English is far better than most of our's Turkish!

Can you provide sound clips of you 4003 and V63 to give us examples of the difference in tone between the two? I assume you are referring to the tone/sound of your two basses, or is it the feel of the strings on the two basses in question?

Hey Jeffrey, thanks for the encouragement You're so kind. I am not referring tonal differences, I think I know enough about it. I am reffering feel of touching to the strings. It is much harder to play v63 than 4003. Strings are sooooo streched.
I am sorry but I have no soundcard for recording. And I believe, recording can't help my problem. Maybe I should write my problem in a new topic. Cause my problem made this beautiful topic a little dirty Soory about that guys.

I think I understand now, Metin. The strings are tighter in feel; you're saying stretched as in a pulled tight rubber band, right? That would be from higher tension strings. Have you tried the same brand and gauge of strings on both basses? The scale length of the two basses in question are the same so the only way they would feel different is if the action were significantly higher on the one with the tighter feel to it, assuming the exact same strings were on both basses.

+1e10, Jeff has nailed it for you. Please make sure there are no differences in the strings, relief, and action before making comparisons. There shouldn't be a difference.

Then again, I just played a 4001 built in 1972 and it felt worlds different from my New Millennium Rickys, even in terms of scale, yet there should be no difference there either. I feel your pain!

The 4001V63 does not have the .0047 cap. The 4001V64 and V64S do.
