I believe that is Squire with his 4008 with the "potato headstock". He got played the bass on the Going For the One tour...along with that suit. The bass now belongs to a forumite but I've never seen any current pics of it here.

I certainly can't tell whether that Rick has 8 strings or not. What I can tell is that it has a toaster bass pickup in the "old" position. A rare Rick to be sure...

That would figure to the the 4001/8. The one in the Entwistle book has checkerboard binding with a black outer ply.

That is not an 8-string, you would be able to see the octave strings. That's a 4-banger. Not to mention the 8-string has no binding.

The potato-head does have binding.

I've got my program from the Going For the One tour right here. Squire is shown with it strapped on in front of a light house at a distance and another with it sitting in front of him on the rocks by the lighthouse. Neither pic shows much detail but it is clearly the same bass. It's a white 8-string 4001 with the octave strings FIRST on a potato headstock with black binding, pickguard and truss rod cover and a toaster in the 1/2" from the dot neck. The bass tuners appear to be wavy Grovers but I can't tell what the guitar tuners are.

It's the same as the one John Entwistle had - they were apparently made at the same time.

Rick Nielsen has another identical one.

One of them has an earlier serial number. Entwistle's was MH. I can't recall if the Squire 4001/8 was earlier or later.

I know someone who can though....

In the interest of bandwidth reduction, yeah right shamless plug for the new Website, here are some recent 4001C64S in action photos for your viewing pleasure.

IIRC there are also some clips from a recent coffee house gig using the 4001C64S located here:

I think they may have only posted the Real Player 60 second clips so far though.

Hey Bob,

Been gigging and working way too much.
Took a little break and have been hanging out at Talk Bass for a while, just a change of scenery so to speak.
