If I had to buy a heavy amp again, it would be a Mesa.

I don't follow Ampeg news much but I thought I read it was Vietnam where their main production was moving. I'd say "same thing" but I'm sure that's politically incorrect so I won't.

Jeff, you'll have to stop over after my new Mesa cabinet shows up......I'm sure it will be a great match for the 400+ (not too heavy....only 45 lbs.)

Back to the original topic......

I'm cautiously hopeful that the new model/feature(s) will impress me enough to open my wallet but......

Instead, I enjoy it.

It's exuberant and unaffected by anything 'ceptin' chemical substances. And it is a challenge to replicate without it looking phony and forced. A thoroughly enjoyable project, in other words.

Well, I love it. And I can't wait to enjoy it.

I would have a hard time powering two Ampeg HLF410's with that Todd
Not all Ampegs are heavy Jeff. My 800 watt PortaBass 800 only weighs 22lbs. My SVP1600 is another story, but then again 1600 watts is never light

I used to have a PB250 head. It sounded pretty good and was built better than most Ampegs, but, after the Loud Technologies screw-up, I will never own another Ampeg, on principle. I have been to the M/B factory in Petaluma for a private tour, they really do show the way for a great American amp builder, and the company has similar philosophies to RIC.

I'm not very up to speed with the goings on in the amplifier industry, Jeff. Could you please tell me...what is "the Loud Technologies screw up?"

Is it just moving production to Asia or is there more to it?

LOUD Technologies bought Ampeg and closed the US production facility. They first moved production to Vietnam and then I believe, to China.

Thanks Dane.

So my two Ampegs (SVT-CL and B-15R) that were made in St Louis have nothing to do with Loud Technologies then.

Nothing at all. In fact there were at least a couple of employees at Ampeg, St.Louis who fought in Vietnam. Kinda ironic isn't it. It's them that I supported when I bought my new Ampegs.

Well that's too bad. I mean...Nothing against Asian products, but when well known American or European brands move production away from the US or Europe in search of the cheapest possible labor I stop buying said product.

I'm currently having a hard time finding a US or European made city bike. Just about any bicycle under $3,000 is made in China these days. :(

Same here; I've a '64 B-18N Portaflex head in a B-15N cabinet. Basically a 50 watt B-15N. That's the only Ampeg I'll ever want. :D

OK everyone, let's say this together... 4001V68!

With character maple, please!
I could go for that, as long as it included a magnet-shoe'd horsey!
