Andy knows what he's talkin' about. My 4004 Cheyenne II has a much 'darker' tone than the 4003. But...I have a '02 model with an unfinished fingerboard which I think has a definate impact on the overall tone. I prefer the feel and tone of the newer 4003's, and love the modern truss rod system. I also love the overall slim feel of the 4001's. They seem a little bit smaller and thinner to me. Here's a photo of my Rick family.Image

Has it ever been confirmed that your red 4004 is the very same one pictured on the RIC website? (http://www.rickenbacker.com/images/4004cii.jpg) Judging from the body grain pattern alone, I think it's safe to go with a 99.99999999999% certainty factor. Image

I'd like to say it is, but I've never been able to confirm it with Rickenbacker.Image

You know ... it's a damn shame some of these 4004's aren't in music stores accross the usa ... I'd love to be able to walk in and buy one and walk out without waiting 9-12 months ...

Every time I go into Sam Ash or GC here with one of my instruments the "clerks" go nuts. They have walls full of guitars and basses but seeing these great Ricks make them drool!

there are medications for that excessive drool.

gotta take some with you!

so as not to get any on your basses

Oh man, that flamed maple is absolutely beautiful.... and I love the transparent red finish--it looks like it's on fire! That is a gorgeous bass.

Thank you all, you are all very kind. I just cant capture the figure in a photo. I'm thinking of having it professionally photographed just to convey the 3D of the grain. And the crazy thing about it is, its not just the top., The back and headpiece are just as figured, and blows away my guitarist's PRS. LOL!!! As far as the catalog photo goes, I think the timeline is right, if figured maple is like fingerprints, I think I've got a good case. Only John Hall may know, just in case, here's a photo of the serial number.Image

There'd be no way to confirm this as there's no record of serial numbers used on photo shoots. We just grab a unit off the line, shoot it, and return it as quickly as possible for shipping.
