Kevin - I can play some Yes and Rush tunes well, there's just some parts that floor me. That measure in Villa, there's a part in "And You And I" that I've never been able to master (right before "I listened hard but could not see") in 25+ years of playing now. LOL I guess we all have our demons.

The few times I've jammed with folks on YYZ I've felt like I could hang with the song. And I used to play "The Trees" in a band...

Have never found any musicians interested in trying to cover a Yes tune...execpt that brief brush with "Long Distance Runaround" while I was playing guitar.

John - Sting is cool. I really like some of his jazzier solo work, and as I grow older and mellower I'm really starting to appreciate the Police - in fact maybe a little regretful that I ignored them as a HS/College kid while they were starting to happen. His point about playing and singing is well taken, and from a player such as Sting should serve as instructive. Image

There's nothing wrong with liking Sting or The Police! I'm not really much of a fan, but I know talent when I hear it!
There's a lot of really subtle stuff in their collective catalog. You can learn from anything, even if you don't like it. You just have to give it a chance.

The last time I jammed on YYZ I had broken an A string on my 4000, & had to try it on my backup bass: a '71 Tele bass with a neck like a 2X4!
After we were done my wrist felt like it was made of stone. Not my best performance!

Wow, makes me wanna go get my fretless Ricky out to dial in that tone. I'm afraid I'll have to settle for my fretless 3000 conversion with a single humbucker.
