We all make light of the May 1960 decision by Larry Parnes to not hire the Beatles as a backing band for the upcoming Billy Fury tour.

But when I listen to the recordings of that pre-Hamburg period I'm amazed that he didn't just completely reject them instead of
hiring them to back up Johnny Gentle on a tour of Scotland at the end of May.

We all tend to forget that EVERYONE, famous and not famous alike, starts out with the basics in a "garage band," and that it takes awhile to learn to play to a level of proficiency where another person can stay in the same room, much less ever make it to a concert stage.
