That's cool Andy that we are two numbers apart. If they were Ferraris these would actually be consecutive and they would be racing chassis (production chassis were odd numbered); this was standard for Ferrari from '47 till about the '70s. Mine came with the gold TRC screws.

Tonight I am going to put TIJFs on her, but before I do I am going to pull out the PUs and see what's under them. I also got some springs that might go under the PUs instead of the foam for adjusting their height.

16 weeks isn't to bad , one of my Zons took 6 months and it was custom made for me by Joe.

looks like a half breed ... somebody let their Spector/Schector/Warwick in with a 4004CII and they had offspring ... lloks like a bolt on with passive humbuckers ...

Now thats something you dont see everyday......just dropped in to inform anyone interested that a natural 4004 II is at the bass northwest site apparently in stock with some great pictures. Thats www.bassnw.com in the exotic bass catagory.

I got the TI flats on Claudia now and it plays much nicer than with the stock roundwounds, and sounds great too. I am very impressed with the variety of sounds, I can get a nice Rick growl and also a good, funky Jaco tone too.

I just got Richard Smith's Rickenbacker book. This should make a great read. The photo on page 205 is incredible of that bass that looks like a cross between a 4001s and a 4005. Man, would I like one of those; that is what RIC should make as a special order option on the 4004 series, it would be really cool!

Dedgoat ... did you buy that bass? or is it in a music store?

I'm thinking about buying it, it's a neck through body, the truss rods adjust at the body end, the parts are all schaller, active EMG pickups (PJ), the quilt is amazing. It's a 24 fret ebony neck, but I don't like the width and the B string is pretty floppy, but for $450 for a used Ric looking 5 string it isn't bad. I'd like to find out where it came from, because the quality looks like a one off custom job.

OK, this is a good one. When I received my Cii, I noticed that the screws in the TRC were chrome as oppose to gold like all of the other hardware on the bass. So I contact RIC and asked if this is how it was suppose to be. RIC responded no and asked for a Pic of the screws if I could. I sent one through to them and they acknowledged that it was an error and would send through replacements. So far, so good! Well they arrived the other day so I set out to replace them – no big deal, right. Well the screws are too small. In other words the screws that came with the bass are larger than the replacement screws, therefore the new screws cannot be tighten. So I contacted RIC again to tell them that they sent the wrong size screw. RIC’s response – we’ll issue an RA if you’d like. So, I wait a year and a half and I’ll send my bass back to California so they can figure out what screws they used in my bass. I don’t think so. They really need to work on their customer service performance. Just as I was feeling better about things!

yeah thats bad customer service. but they are only screws affter all. and very minor screws at that. If you wanns use the new ones RIC sent you, why not just put bits of toothpick in the holes to make them smaller? i have to do that on both my ricks anyway.

Sorry to hear that Andy. If the screws aren't way too small try the ends of toothpicks in the holes. I have a few in my 4005 WB and 4001.

Toothpicks in the trc holes!!....with all due respect to you guys, who have obviously made the best of a bad situation, this new bass should be perfect...and not acceptable unless it is... Especially, given Andy,s particular situation, which has been well documented here. The proper screws should be there A.S.A.P...

OK:

The wrong screws were used to attach the nameplate. They were the wrong color, and the wrong size. It was a mistake.

To the best of my knowledge, the correct ones - the ones which should have been on the bass in the first place - were sent to the customer.

The first screws used had a slightly larger diameter, and therefore the holes simply need 1/16" or so of wood for the new screws to fully tighten down. The toothpick trick, as mentioned above, is a common remedy for this.

The instrument had an error, RIC was contacted, and the correct parts were sent out, free of charge. This was still not to the customer's satisfaction, and therefore RIC offered to take the bass back for warranty work.

I fail to see how this is poor customer service.
