I did a a/b test with recording 4 Ricks straight into Garageband and this one is 1 of my best sounding Ricks.

My 2nd Rick. Born september 1979. I have it for many (+15) years now for once in a while Fretless playing. (Not that I just play fretless once in a while, once in a while I have a period of almost only fretless playing.) Early this year I bought a Fretless Warwick as a test to a) see if I like a modern bass. b) see if I really like an ebony board better. Result is that I like playing the Warwick better without amplification, but once amplified I really do not like the sound it gives and I really like the sound of the Rick. I now do know I want a Fretless Rick with an ebony board someday. And most likely this bass will undergo this treatment (as I have another RIC FL now which will not undergo any non-original treatment).

Thanks for keeping the ball rolling, Bert. Interesting idea - a 4001 FL w/ebony fretboard. Let us know how it turns out.

I took delivery of my first Rickenbacker, a 360 LH MG exactly ten years ago. I ordered it in Apr 98 and the serial number indicates it's a Jul 98.

And too think 5 months was a long time!

Fretless ebony boards on a Rick have been done before even by the factory as you will know. (At least 2 I just read at Ginger's myspace.) Offcourse I will let you know, but dont expect anything soon as at the moment this is just a thought just as making it like the 4001s prototype with 4005 electronics of which a picture is in the Smith book is. It is a nice thought though...

Well I can't remember if I did thins one before or not - probably....anyhow my September 2000 4003s5 (with ROS added)... the thick neck 4003 never appealed to me but somehow seems to work with the close string pitch... A very powerful ballsy beast!!!

This month 1974 my B-115 amp was born. I bought it (cheap) last year and plan to restore it (It's going for a technical overhaul next week, cosmetic will come after that). I bought it because I found it fun to have the last Tube Bass amp Rickenbacker made (it is, isnt it?). I actually used it for some months at home and found it had a very nice warm and clear tone. But last 2 times I switched it on there where some thunder sounds coming out of it (not via the speaker). I didnt switch it on after that.

Bert - I think yours is the first amp that's been featured in this thread! I'll bet that's a great sounding rig when working up to spec.
