Mike Nesmith did write and produce song's on the first 2 albums and eventually all four wrote songs for later albums. Beatles, maybe not. But they did do what they were pretty good at, the Tv series and they did do some good music. And their show still holds up today, a classic sitcom with a Rock 'N Roll twist.

Am I right that the fret markers on Nesmith's Gretsch are a Rickenbacker imitation?

Recently reading Nesmith bio somewhere, it mentioned that Mike asked to be built, and got, the first Gretsch 12 stringer.

Mike's is 17" wide too, most of the vintage Gretsch 12 strings i've seen are 16".

They do make a new version but its more a Country Classic/Gent 12 ,with Neo classic thumb nail inlays, painted F holes.
Most where brown but a few where natural.

I've often wondered about painted f-holes......... what the hell?......
why not just put real ones in there? Painted f-holes seem so cheesy.

The Beatles played at the ABC on 28th March 1963 and 28th October 1964. The second show was sold out 8 weeks before. The photo shows the group at the ABC with supporting performers at the March 1963 show.

Ringo's Muffling Techniques
As far back as August 18, 1962, when Ringo had his first rehearsal as a Beatle at the Cavern Club, he can be seen using John's Harmonica case to dampen the sound of his snare drum.

Another early muffling technique was to use a cigarette pack on his snare.

Other times ends of the cloth were drawn behind the tension rods and pulled tight. Sometimes the ends were knotted or tied together.

Ringo also removed his front drum head and placed a blanket inside the shell. It was reported that a special sweater with eight sleeves was used early on. Note: The movie Help was originally to be called Eight Arms To Hold You. This sweater was made for the film and disgarded only to be used as a bass drum muffler.

I've read the sweater was actually knitted by a fan in the early days, and there is a pic out there with the fabs trying it on.

Is the idea of John playing George's guitar that far-fetched?

RE: Gretsch f-holes...it was Chet Atkins' idea to use a solid top to cut down on feedback, like B.B. King's Lucille guitar. I think the holes were painted on to give a more traditional look.
