How did the Searchers come up with their name, and where abouts were they sitting when it was agreed by all that it would become the groups name? What particular phrase is the common link with Buddy Holly?

Two questions in a row.

In what country was this particular Byrds single released? See the photo below. Here's a clue: it is a rare single sought after by collectors.

The Searchers with John Wayne. He keeps saying "that'll be the day" throughout the film, which is a classic. Dunno where they were sitting, but I'd guess a theater.

Matthew,

Correct on all counts except that according to John they were sitting at a bus stop when they took the decision. I just watched an interview with Red Robinson. Red asked John to tell him how the name came about.

Checking the fine print on the single, I believe the language is Spanish (or Portuguese) rather than German (or any other Northern European language).

This actually widens out the possibilities as just about all of Latin America speaks Spanish or, in Brazil's case, Portuguese.

Am I getting warm?

One last clue. It's a country that took on a nation with a seafaring tradition and a history of conquest and lost.
